一友指岩中花树问曰：「天下无心外之物：如此花树在深山中自开自落，于我心亦何相关？」
先生曰：「你未看此花时，此花与汝心同归于寂[2]；你来看此花时，则此花颜色一时明白起来。便知此花不在你的心外。」
先生游南镇。
一位朋友指着岩中的花树问：「天下没有心外之物：可这花树在深山中自开自落，与我的心有什么相关？」
先生说：「你没有看这花时，这花与你的心同归于沉寂；你来看这花时，这花的颜色一时明白起来。便知道这花不在你的心外。」
The Master was touring South Town.
A friend pointed to flowering trees on the cliff and asked: 'You say there is nothing outside the mind — yet these flowers open and fall by themselves deep in the mountains: what have they to do with my mind?'
The Master said: 'Before you looked at them, these flowers and your mind alike were in stillness; you come and look at them, and their colors at once show clear. Then you know they are not outside your mind.'
- 今浙江会稽山。
- 此「寂」字非寂灭之「寂」，而系「寂然不动」之寂。此处言「此花与汝心同归于寂」，下一「同」字，则与柏克莱所谓「存在即被知觉」之意义显然不同。
