先生曰:「无知无不知,本体原是如此。譬如日未尝有心照物,而自无物不照。无照无不照,原是日的本体。良知本无知,今却要有知,本无不知,今却疑有不知,只是信不及耳。」

先生说:「无知而无不知,本体原是如此。譬如太阳不曾有心照物,却自然无一物不照。无照而无 不照,原是太阳的本体。良知本无知,如今却要有知;本无不知,如今却疑有不知——只是信不及罢了。」

The Master said: 'Knowing nothing yet nothing unknown — the substance is thus from the first. The sun never intends to shine, yet nothing is unlit: neither-intending-shine-yet-all-shone is the sun's substance. Innate knowledge originally knows not; now you would have it know; originally nothing unknown, now you doubt it — only trust falls short.'
