先生尝语学者曰：「心礼上著不得一念留滞，就如眼著不得些子尘沙。些子能得几多？满眼便昏天黑地了。」
又曰：「这一念不但是私念，便好的念头亦著不得些子。如眼中放些金玉屑，眼亦开不得了。」
先生曾对学者说：「心上着不得一念留滞，就像眼睛着不得些子尘沙。尘沙能有多少？满眼便昏天黑地了。」
又说：「这一念不但是私念，好的念头也着不得一些。如眼中放进些金玉的碎屑，眼睛也睁不开了。」
The Master once told the learners: 'The heart can bear no lingering thought, as the eye no grain of dust. How much is a grain? Yet the whole eye goes dark. Nor is it only private thoughts — good thoughts too leave no room: gold and jade filings in the eye keep it from opening all the same.'
