唐诩问：「立志是常存个善念，要为善去恶否？」
曰：「善念存时，即是天理。此念即善，更思何善？此念非恶，更去何恶？此念如树之根芽，立志者，长立此善念而已。『从心所欲不逾矩』，只是志到熟处。」
唐诩问：「立志就是常存一个善念、要为善去恶吗？」
先生说：「善念存的时候，就是天理。这个念头本身就是善，还想什么善？这个念头并非恶，还去什么恶？这个念头如同树的根芽，立志就是长久立定这个善念罢了。『从心所欲不逾矩』，只是志达到了纯熟的地步。」
Tang Xu asked: 'Is setting the will just keeping a good thought constant, meaning to do good and remove evil?'
The Master said: 'When a good thought is present, that is heavenly principle. The thought itself is good — what further good to seek? The thought is not evil — what evil to remove? This thought is like a tree's root and sprout; to set the will is simply to stand long in this good thought. Following the heart's desire without overstepping the line is only the will brought to ripeness.'
