问：「道一而已。古人论道，往往不同，求之亦有要乎？」
先生曰：「道无方体，不可执著；却拘滞于文义上求道，远矣。如今人只说天，其实何尝见天？谓日、月、风、雷即天，不可；谓人、物、草、木不是天，亦不可。道即是天，若识得时，何莫而非道？人但各以其一隅之见，认定以为道止如此，所以不同。若解向里寻求，见得自己心体，即无时无处不是此道。亘古亘今，无终无始，更有甚同异？心即道，道即天，知心则知道、知天。」
又曰：「诸君要实见此道，须从自己心上体认，不假外求，始得。」
有人问：「道只有一个。古人论道往往各不相同，探求它也有要领吗？」
先生说：「道没有固定的形体，不可执着；若拘泥在文义上求道，就离道远了。比如如今人只说天，其实何尝见过天？说日、月、风、雷就是天，不行；说人、物、草、木不是天，也不行。道就是天。若识得了它，什么不是道？人只是各以自己一隅之见，认定道不过如此，所以各不相同。若懂得向里面寻求，见到自己的心体，就无时无处不是这个道。亘古亘今，无终无始，还有什么同异？心就是道，道就是天，知心就知 道、知天。」
又说：「诸位要真见到这个道，必须从自己心上体认，不向外求，才行。」
Someone asked: 'The Way is one alone; yet the ancients' accounts of it often differ — is there a key to seeking it?'
The Master said: 'The Way has no fixed place or form and cannot be clung to; to seek it pinned to the words' letter strays far. People speak of Heaven, but when have they ever seen Heaven? To say sun, moon, wind and thunder are Heaven will not do; to say men, things, grass and trees are not Heaven will not do either. The Way is Heaven. Know it, and what is not the Way? Each man, from his one corner's view, decides the Way is only thus — hence the differences. Learn to seek within and see your own mind-substance, and there is no time or place where it is not this Way. Through all antiquity, without end or beginning — what same or different then? The mind is the Way, the Way is Heaven: know the mind and you know the Way and Heaven.'
He added: 'To truly see this Way, you must recognize it on your own mind, not seeking outside.'
