Someone asked: 'Yanping said: according with principle and without selfish mind. How do according with principle and freedom from selfishness differ?'
The Master said: 'The mind is principle: without selfishness is according with principle; off principle is selfishness. To split mind and principle apart in speech is also unfitting.'
Asked further: 'The Buddhists cling to none of the world's private passions — seemingly without selfishness — yet abandoning human relations seems off principle.'
'In truth it is one affair: all of it only perfecting a self-serving mind.'
