或问为学以亲故，不免业举之累。
先生曰：「以亲之故而业举，为累于学，则治田以养其亲者，亦有累于学乎？先正云：『惟患夺志。』但恐为学之志不真切耳。」
有人问：为学因为双亲的缘故，免不了科举事业的牵累。
先生说：「因为父母而应科举，便算牵累学问，那么种田奉养父母的人，也牵累学问吗？先贤说：『只怕夺了为学之志。』只怕是为学之志不真切罢了。」
Someone said that for his parents' sake he could not escape the burden of examination study.
The Master said: 'If taking the examinations for one's parents burdens learning, does farming to feed one's parents burden it too? The earlier worthies said: only fear it usurps the will. The fear is only that the will to learn is not earnest.'
