104· 薛侃錄

崇一问:「寻常意思多忙。有事固忙,无事亦忙,何也?」

先生曰:「天地气机,元无一息之停,然有个主宰,故不先、不后,不急、不缓,虽千变万化,而主宰常定,人得此而生。若主宰定时,与天运一般不息,虽酬酢万变,常是从容自在,所谓『天君泰然,百体从令』[1]。若无主宰,便只是这气奔放,如何不忙?」

崇一问:「平日意念多忙乱。有事固然忙,无事也忙,为什么?」

先生说:「天地之气机原本没有一刻停息,但有个主宰,所以不先不后、不急不缓,虽然千变万化,而主宰常定,人由此得生。如果主宰安定时,便与天道运行一般不息,虽然应酬万变,常是从容自在,所谓『天君泰然,百体从令』。如果没有主宰,便只是这气奔放乱窜,怎能不忙?」

Chongyi asked: 'My thoughts are mostly in a bustle — busy with affairs, busy without affairs too. Why?'

The Master said: 'The breath of heaven and earth never pauses one instant, yet it has a master, so it is neither before nor after, neither hurried nor slack; though it changes ten thousand ways, the master stays fixed, and by this man lives. When the master is settled, one moves unresting as heaven itself; though engagements multiply, one stays composed and at ease — the lord of heaven serene, the hundred limbs obeying. Without a master, the energies only stampede — how not be busy?'
