问：「『析之有以极其精而不乱，然后合之有以尽其大而无余』，此言如何？」
先生曰：「恐亦未尽。此理岂容分析？又何须凑合得？圣人说『精一』，自是尽。」
有人问：「『分析开来要极尽它的精细而不乱，然后综合起来要穷尽它的广大而无遗漏』，这话怎么样？」
先生说：「恐怕也没说尽。这个理岂容分析？又何须凑合？圣人说『精一』，本来就已说尽了。」
Someone asked: "What of the saying 'analyze to the utmost fineness without confusion, then combine to exhaust the whole without remainder'?"
The Master said: "I fear it is not exhaustive. How can principle tolerate being analyzed? And what need to piece it together? The sages' 'refinement and unity' already said it all."
